Powis Castle, United Kingdom

1. Tea time at Powis Castle

Take a step back in time to the Middle Ages and visit Powis Castle and Gardens in Welshpool. You might want to take the whole day for this visit, as you can enjoy the art, the castle interiors and the garden. You can even enjoy lunch or a proper English cup of tea in the Courtyard Café. Even on a typical - rainy - English day there is plenty to see and visit inside the castle. Several motorhome stopovers and campsites are found in the area.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"A pleasant and comfortable campsite with excellent individual sanitary facilities. Very quiet campsite. Convenient for a visit to Powis Castle, which is highly recommended."

Silves, Portugal

2. Cultural Silves show its Moorish influences

Silves is located just above the famous town of Portimaos. A must-see for culture lovers. Expect magnificent mansions and a completely red castle from the time when the Algarve was occupied by the Arabs. Built on a Roman ruin from the 4th or 5th century, the castle shows its beautiful Moorish influences. The same red sandstone is used for the Gothic and Baroque style cathedral across the street. Silves has not one, but two motorhome sites to park for the night!

⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Lovely place within walking distance of an interesting village with a Moorish castle. Capital of Moorish Portugal during the occupation. Friendly and cheerful manager with lots of stories about Silves' past."

Skagen, Denmark

3. Northern Denmark's artistic town: Skagen

Many artists (Skagen Painters) visited the northern town of Skagen because of its special light during the late 19th century. Skagens Museum shows the works of these artists. Even further north, just above the town of Grenen, you can see the waters of Kattegat and Skagerrak converge. Besides the spectacular waves that it brings, the currents are extremely strong too. It is not recommended to swim in the sea. You can stay here for one or more days at one of the several motorhome stopovers and campsites in the area of Skagen.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Large pitches, excellent sanitary facilities and fresh rolls in the morning. Great place to explore Skagen and Grenen by bike."

Pyrenees National Park; France, Andorra & Spain

4. Admire 14,000 acres of natural beauty

When you are travelling through the Pyrenees you can not miss the Pyrenees National Park. Streams of natural water run through the mountains and rocks which are mostly granite. Over 200 lakes are found in the park. And with a total coverage of a whopping 14.000 hectares, there is enough to see in the park to keep you entertained for a day (or two, or three). A handful of beautiful car parks, campsites and motorhome stopovers are found in the area. In the summer you can enjoy the greenery and in winter time you can bring your skis as the park also has a ski resort.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Magnificent views and starry skies! No amenities, but nearby in Barruera there are. The village is within walking distance, with a supermarket, where at least they sell bread. It is a ski village. Really enjoyed this place!"

Lofoten, Norway

5. Lofoten Islands explored on the water

A boat trip in the Lofoten Islands is beyond wonderful. But what about a whale safari? If you are at the Lofoten, this is an absolute must. Apart from the different species of whales, you will also be able to see the famous puffins. A truly great experience to be remembered. Of course the trip is animal friendly and you will never disturb the animals. As this whale safari is a full day trip, it is convenient that there is a camper spot right next to Stø. Here it really feels like you parked your motorhome at the edge of the world.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

"What a beautiful place at the end of the world. We were here at the end of August and were pretty much alone apart from a German fisherman. Sanitary facilities are ok. Toilets are heated. The canteen was closed, but there is 220v electricity."

Schiermonnikoog, the Netherlands

6. A day trip to Schiermonnikoog

Why not? Simply take the early ferry from Lauwersoog and you will be on the island Schiermonnikoog in about 50 minutes. Take the bike from your motorhome to the ferry and bring it to the island. Schiermonnikoog is car-free. To visit the island’s attractions you cycle along the coast from north to south and back again in no time. Take a look at the beautifully restored houses in the typical island style and do not forget to view the oldest house. This is House Marten, it dates back to 1721. Visit the museums and take a break at one of the few restaurants around the Langestreek and Nieuwestreek. When you are ready to leave, you take the ferry back to Lauwersoog. The campsite is only a short bike ride away from the harbour.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Cosy campsite in a wooded area with a canal for swimming. Dogs are welcome here and there is plenty of space to let them out. Friendly owners and we were given two eggs from their own chickens. So nice."

Normandy, France

7. Walking through a Monet in Normandy

Walking through the painting 'La falaise a Fecamp' in Normandy by the famous French painter Claude Monet. Sounds picturesque, right? Whether you will see the exact same colours depends on the weather, but the area is beautiful in any kind of weather. The high contrast of the white chalk cliffs against the deep blue sea and the bright green grass on the cliffs is a sight to behold. Especially if you enjoy walking. There are footpaths taking you up the cliffs from the coast, and the views at the top are breathtaking. Not a long-distance walker? There are three campsites nearby and you can also take the bus.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Lovely motorhome site directly overlooking the sea. Super clean, tidy, brand new sanitary facilities, hot water and electricity. The owners were super friendly and the place is right by the sea where dogs are allowed on the beach ❤️🐶Merci"

Koroni, Greece

8. Koroni's coastal views

A lively seaside town with cute cafes on the promenade. The bay is filled with little boats along the boulevard where all the houses have bright coloured facades. Koroni Castle is a must-see and do not forget to also climb the watchtower in the monastery garden for a beautiful view of the sea and land. Take some fruit with you, as the monastery garden itself is home to butterflies of all colours and sizes. And when you are back in town, also explore the street behind the promenade for lovely boutiques, local delis and atmospheric restaurants. Koroni has a campsite 1km from the town, ideal!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Friendly welcome. Beautifully situated campsite with great views of beautiful Koroni from the pool. Pitches for large motorhomes (7.90m) are by the pool. Access to the pitches is slightly narrow and steep, but manageable."

Grasse, France

9. A fragrant outing in Grasse

The charming city of perfume, Grasse, is nestled between the peaks of the Alps. Besides it being a lovely town to visit, the Perfume Museum is highly recommended. Travel back in time to the pharaohs and Roman gods to discover the history of perfume. The perfumes of Grasse are part of the Unesco World Heritage and recently the museum has undergone a real facelift. Apart from the ever changing collections and the history of perfume you can also learn everything about the process of perfume creation. After a fragrant day in Grasse, we advise you to drive a little further to the coast. Here you will find beautiful motorhome stopovers and campsites by the sea. A nice change from all those Alps.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"As far as we are concerned this is a 5 star campsite. Everything to hand, clean sanitary facilities and nice pitches. Good base for the beautiful places in the area."

- Kampen23 about Camping Azur Rivage

Sicily, Italy

10. Climb Europe's highest volcano

When you are in Sicily, there is no chance that you have missed the Etna. You almost can notnot climb it. An adventurous trip where you drive halfway up the volcano. From there you take the cable car up to the top of the crater. The almost otherworldly lava landscape is around you as far as eyes can see. Do wear warm clothes. At the top of the volcano temperatures can easily be 10-15 degrees colder than down below, on the island. You could even camp right up on the base of the volcano.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Beautiful campsite with impeccable management, brand new and spotless bathrooms, shuttle service, good starting point for excursions to the Etna. Bread in the morning on request, drinking water on site."
