Do you feel overwhelmed when you open the Campercontact app and there are just too many motorhome stopovers and campsites to choose from? There are over 50.000 sites in almost 60 countries found on the app. So we are not surprised it could be a little bit overwhelming indeed. That is why we have some tips that might come in handy. So you can find your perfect location that suits both your wishes and those of your traveling companions.
First things first. Decide what country you want to travel to. It might mean you are going to be crossing a few borders, but try to pick the furthest destination first. This will tell you a lot about all the countries you will travel through, possible temperature differences along the way and whether toll badges are needed for example.
So, you already know a little bit about the route you are going to travel. Are there any favorite stopovers along the way already? Maybe you have friends in the areas you will travel past. Or places you have always wanted to visit. Save those in your favourites in the app in a list per country, or trip. Whatever sounds more useful to you of course.
For all the countries you plan on visiting, you can easily download them per country. Imagine you are on the top of a mountain with no reception and you try to remember the name of that motorhome stopover you were looking for. With our offline maps you have the whole mountain and the rest of the country in your phone. Download the countries on the wifi before you leave. That will save you a lot of data on the road.
When you are unsure of the exact location you are at, search using a major city nearby. If you zoom out a little bit on the map, you will automatically see all the motorhome stopovers and campsites in the area pop-up. Perfect! Say, for example, you see Lyon on the signs and you wonder if there is a nice stopover nearby. A quick search for Lyon and you will see there are over 80 sites nearby. PS. If you use the following tip, you do not have to work through all those 80 sites to find the best one.
Welcome to the secret of finding the perfect spot in a quick and smart way. If you take a closer look at the Campercontact app, you will discover that there are many filters to choose from. This comes in handy when you are looking for a certain stopover. When applied correctly you will see only options that fit your needs. Of course you need to take into consideration that the more filters you combine, the fewer sites you will see. But it is more likely that you will find a perfect motorhome stopover or campsite that fits your needs. The only thing you have left to do is press on ‘route’ and follow directions.
Whether you want to stay at a campsite or a motorhome stopover, simply select the ones you want to see in the search results. Do you prefer a campsite? Select ‘campsite’ in the filter. Or do you really want to visit a motorhome stopover? In that case you simply pick ‘motorhome stopover’.
Do you know when you plan on traveling? Then use the ‘my travel period’ filter that only shows sites that are open in this time period you have selected. This helps prevent disappointment at closed sites.
With this filter you can set a maximum amount for the price per night. This comes in handy when you do not want to spend all of your travel budget on campsites and motorhome stopovers.
The prettiest, cutest, coolest and most special motorhome sites and campsites score high points with our users. When you want to make sure you arrive at a nice place; select ‘at least 3 star or higher’ star rating. We know there are as many people as there are opinions and desires, and one positive review does not make it a great site for anyone. So maybe an extra filter can help here. There is an option to only show sites that have at least 5, 25 or 50 reviews.
You can not expect every campsite to have all the facilities you desire. If you want to stay at a campsite that offers hot showers for example, use this filter ‘shower’. You can use filters like; shower, washing machine, electricity, toilet discharge, swimming pool any many more.
For special sites like (wine) farms you can use a separate filter. Also when you have your golf clubs in the garage waiting for a fresh green there is a filter: ‘near golf course’. The filter also works great if you prefer to have a paved site or when you are looking for small sites with a maximum of 5 motorhomes.
Are you a keen fisherman? Select ‘fishing’ for the perfect fishing waters that are on or next to the motorhome spot. If you would also like to be able to swim in those waters, simply also select ‘swimming’. In addition to these filters you can also select ‘in the woods’ or ‘in the city center’. And for the hungry traveler with an empty fridge in their motorhomes there is the ‘near a supermarket’ filter.
You can often get a great discount at campsites and motorhome stopovers. For example with ASCI, SVR or other membership cards. Use this filter and tick off the cards you have, who knows what great deal you might get out of it.
There are a few filters added here. If you are looking for a wheelchair-friendly site, or if you bring along your four legged friends, when you want to be able to use the awning or enjoy nude recreation. All of these filters are found under ‘other filters’ in the app.
With these tips you are well on your way to find your perfect site in no time. Would you like to use a ready-made route? Then you should definitely check out our routes.
